SATURDAY, APRIL 29 

Citywide Yard Sale
Chairperson: Nancy Jarred, 514-8761,
Spend your day exploring hidden treasures and great bargains across the city of Dresden. Bring your friends and enjoy being out and about town when it’s Iris Time in Tennessee!
Your $5.00 participation fee may be paid at Dresden City Hall. Checks may be written to Ten-nessee Iris Festival. The deadline to register is April 26, 2017. Maps are available at Dresden City Hall Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Bicycle Rodeo
Chairperson: Joey Winstead
Bring your bicycle and enjoy riding in a fun-filled obstacle course in the Ned Ray McWherter Civic Center parking lot beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Power Wheels in the Park
Chairperson: First Community Bank of the Heartland , 731-514-1605
Bring your battery powered toy for a fun drag racing and obstacle course experience. Participants may be ages 7 and under. Event will take place in City of Dresden Park at 5:00 p.m. and ONE Power Wheel will be given away! Some additional Power Wheels may be available for participants to use. The Market at Wilson Park

Visit arts, crafts, and fine merchandise vendors and shop for souvenirs and gifts at the marketplace at Dresden City Park from 2:00 p.m. to dark. To be a vendor, visit www.tennesseeirisfestival.net and fill out an application. The cost of a booth is $25. Ta-bles will be available for your 10’ x 10’ booth space. Set up will begin at 12:00 p.m.

Tennessee Iris Festival Opening Ceremony

Join us at Dresden City Park at 6:00 p.m. as the 38th celebration begins! This fun night of entertainment features live music from the “Elam McKnight”, free food, and a fantastic fireworks show sponsored by Savant Learning Systems! The kids can also enjoy a slide and obstacle course this year! This is an event your whole family is sure to enjoy! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets!

Tennessee Iris Festival Art Tour

View tasteful photographs, drawings, and paintings displayed at the old Junior High Gym on Sun-day, April 30th from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. and Monday, May 1st from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Entries into the art show come from Weakley, Obion, Gibson, Carroll, and Henry County in the age divisions of 17 & under and 18 & older. A special category for “Hometown Hero” has been added to this year’s competition. For more entry and category information please contact the chair-person.

Cemetery Walk

This event is a favorite of many and sure to be enjoyable to people of all ages. Don’t miss this enjoyable afternoon of oral, interpretive history. Transportation will be available to those in need of assistance in traveling the course of the cemetery.
Honoring a WW I Hometown Hero – Lieutenant Herbert J. Jones
Dresden War hero, Lieutenant Herbert J. Jones, killed in action July 4, 1918 in World War I will be honored, this year, in the Cemetery Walk. He was recently the subject of a special recog-nition ceremony on November 6, 1918 at the Weakley County Courthouse, a part of the Great Wars Commission Commemoration of the Centennial Celebration of World War I.
The Walk will introduce the remarkable, accomplished life and the heroic, sacrificial death of one of Dresden’s most highly decorated soldiers through actors portraying individuals from that era and his life, telling the story of Lieutenant Jones.
The Walk (guided tours groups) will begin at 4 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery on April 30, 2017 and will continue until around 6 p.m.

MONDAY, May 1

Prayer Breakfast

Begin the week at 7:00 a.m. in fellowship at the Dresden Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. A breakfast and program will be provided by Dresden First United Methodist Church. Dignitaries, city, county, and state officials will be recognized. Tickets cost $5.00 each and may be purchased at the door immediately before the event. Tickets are available for purchase in advance at First United Methodist Church, Dresden City Hall and First Com-munity Bank of the Heartland in Dresden.

Tasting Party

Come enjoy the fine cooking and popular dishes of the area’s best cooks at The Dresden Elks Lodge from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Admission is $7.00 at the door.

Children’s Fun Bingo

Bring your children up to 12 years old to Dresden Elementary School from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for a free game of Bingo. Fun prizes will be awarded! Please stay with your children while they play or make plans to pick them up at DES no later than 7:00 p.m.

Iris Festival Fun Bingo

This is one of the most popular events of the week and offers many opportunities to win. The game itself is suspenseful and exciting, and the fun is topped by the great prizes you may win. Bingo is the place to be! Come to the new location Dresden Middle School Gym from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. to get in on the action. Admission is free. Must be 18 to enter.

Baking Contest

Think you’re a good cook? Enter your prize-winning recipe, and let the judges decide. There is no cost to enter. Bring your baked dishes to the McWherter Civic Center between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. The judging will begin at 10:00 a.m. SPONSORED BY JORDAN PLUMBING COMPANY.

Senior Citizen Luncheon

Bring a dish, enjoy a free potluck meal, and enjoy the fellowship at 12:00 noon at the McWherter Civic Center. Door prizes will also be given. SPONSORED BY RONALD STOKER.

Quilt Show

Pancake Supper

Come eat delicious pancakes at Dresden First Baptist Family Life Center served by the Men’s Ministry and Women on Mission before the community-wide church service from 5:00—6:45 p.m. Tickets will be $5.00 and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds will be given to Santa’s Helpers.

Community Wide Gospel Singing

Enjoy the Community Gospel Singing at Dresden First Baptist Church at 7 p.m.
The featured group is The Chandlers from Greenfield, Tennessee, founded in 1992. The Chandlers, with their two daughters travel in a ministry of singing and preaching conducting con-certs, revivals, camp meetings and conferences. Their travels have taken them all over the United States, Canada, Serbia, and the Philippines. The group consists of: Tim, Lana, and their two daugh-ters, Tiffany, and Lyndsey.
They have been blessed to share the stage with such groups as: Brian Free and Assurance, Karen Peck and New River, Lulu Roman, Jason Crabb, Michael English, The McKameys, The Freemans, Southern Plainsmen, and others. They have also been privileged to sing on the main stage at the National Quartet Convention, and Dollywood Theme Park. The group was voted into the Top 5 in the Sunrise Horizon Group of the Year category of the Diamond Awards.
Their ministry, based in Greenfield, TN, has been a blessing to thousands in as many as 175 dates a year. You may contact The Chandlers at P.O. Box 152, Greenfield, TN 38230. Community Health Fair

Come to the West Side of Court Square in Dresden from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon as local health care providers give free health screenings and resource education.

Iris Festival Golf Tournament

Sign your team up now for the 25th Annual Dresden Rotary Club Iris Festival Golf Tour-nament! Our Entry Fee for a 3 Person Scramble Team is just $150, which includes Greens Fees, Cart, Cookout Lunch, $10,000 Hole-in-One Prize, Longest Drive & Closest to the Pin Prizes, Door Prizes, Goodie Bags & On Course Refreshments. Check in & Cookout Lunch begin at 11:30 a.m., with the Shotgun Start at 12:30 p.m.
The Dresden Rotary Club uses proceeds from this tournament to help feed over 300 chil-dren at risk of hunger through our support of the Weakley County Backpack Program. Dresden Rotary also provides scholarships, supports youth sports and leadership pro-grams, and addresses other needs in our community.
Registration forms are available at the Persimmon Hills Golf Course, Dresden City Hall, and Dresden Insurance Agency. Teams must submit entry forms to one of these locations by May 3, 2017. Please make checks payable to the Dresden Rotary Club. Hole Sponsorships are available for $50. Fairy Tale Feast

Bring your children to visit with their favorite fairytale characters at Dresden Elementary School cafeteria from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Children will have a photo opportunity with Cin-derella’s Carriage and Prince Charming this year. Admission to this event is free, and re-freshments will be provided.

Fashion Show

The Purple Iris will be the location for this year’s Fashion Show. Come in your Sunday best to see the latest fashions, from your local stores, modeled by our very own Hometown He-roes! The show will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Claire-Brooke Consignment on the court square in Dresden for $8. Tickets can also be purchased the night of the event at the door for $10. Free admission for children 5 and under.

Quilt Show

Whether you enjoy quilting as a hobby, a trade, or simply enjoy viewing the pieces other people have made, you should make a point to come by the McWherter Civic Center be-tween 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Advanced registration for entry is required. To register, please take your quilts to the McWherter Civic Center on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 be-tween 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for qualified entry. SPONSORED BY JORDAN PLUMBING.

Tennessee Iris Festival Iris and Horticulture Show

Bring your favorite plants, flowers, and mixed arrangements to Dresden First United Methodist Church. Entries will be taken from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., and judging will begin at 9:45 a.m. This event is open to public viewing from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will also be a new “Best of Show Iris” award given this year!! Entries and awards must be picked up by 4:00 p.m.

Corner Café

Enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by the United Methodist Women at the Dresden First United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for $10.00.

Tennessee Iris Festival BBQ Cook Off

Returning to the Iris Festival this year is the BBQ Cook-off! Local cooker will compete on Moore Street (across from the Farmer’s Market). Please contact the chair person regarding entry fees, food categories, and any other questions!

Tennessee Iris Festival Music Fest

Come to the Dresden Farmers Market at Terry Oliver Plaza and enjoy a great night of food, hot rods, antique cars, and live music from local talent. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.

5K Race, 2 Mile Walk, 1 Mile Kids Fun Run, & .25 Tot Run

The races will be held right off the Dresden Court Square at the corner of Main Street and Poplar Street in Dresden. The first 75 entries, 5K only, will receive a grab bag. 5K Race is $15.00 in advance (deadline April 14th) or $20.00 on the day of the race beginning at 8:00 a.m., 2 mile walk $10.00 beginning at 8:00 a.m., 1 Mile Fun Run, for kids ages 5—12 years will be $10.00 beginning at 7:30 a.m., and 5 and under Tot Run $8.00 immediately follow-ing the 5K. Tennessee Iris Festival Parade

Find your favorite spot along the NEW parade route to see this year’s entries and our wonderful dignitaries, royalties, and honored guests as they parade through Dresden in celebration of the 37th Annual Tennessee Iris Festival. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. You can find a highlighted map of the NEW parade route in this booklet. Advance regis-tration for entry is required by Friday, May 6, 2016. Entries forms available at Simmons Bank, Dresden and at tennesseeirisfestival.net.

Parade Yard Party Competition
The Tennessee Iris Festival Executive Board invites the homes and businesses along the Parade route to make the Parade even more festive by hosting a “Yard Party” dur-ing the Parade. If you do not live along the Parade route and want to host a party combine your hosting skills with someone who does for a morning of cele-brating this year’s theme, “The Vintage Iris”. The Mayor’s Choice Award for the best “Parade Yard Party” will be awarded a sign to display in the winning yard and a Festive Gift Basket. For more information please call 514-8727 or 514-1605.

McWherter Governor’s Luncheon

Gather at Carey Lawn to close the festival week and to recognize and thank those who served to make it a success. The program and meal will begin at 12:00 noon. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to Dresden Elementary School. The Iris Festival Luncheon is open to the public. Purchase of tickets is required in advance, and the cost is $10.00 each. Tickets are available at Dresden City Hall and First Community Bank of the Heartland in Dresden.

Pet Show

Bring your pets to A to Z Vet Supply, 9876 Highway 22, Dresden at 2:00 p.m. and show off their beauty and talent in a variety of categories. There will be several categories for all of your pets! No entry fee is required.

The Tennessee Iris Festival Scholarship Fund

A member of the Iris Festival Executive Board will be at each event during the 36th Annual Tennessee Iris Festival with a flower pot intended for the collection of donations to the Tennessee Iris Festival Scholarship Fund established in 2012.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated and will benefit the recipients of the Tennessee Iris Festival Scholarship.  This scholarship will be awarded to two Dresden High School students who have volunteered service to the Tennessee Iris Festival in honor of this year’s Tennessee Iris Festival Grand Marshals and Citizen of the Year.
